Alcohol and
Violence
Course rationale
The links between alcohol and violence are clearly
evidenced either from a current research perspective or from a
casual trawl through current media coverage. Staff working with
individuals who commit acts of violence under the influence of
alcohol need to understand both the mechanisms of this link and
potential intervention strategies.
Course Design
The event aims to provide an overview of the mechanisms
involved in the relationship between alcohol and violence and an
overview of the range of interventions that can be used to target
this link. This input can then be followed by an opportunity for
staff to consider how they can contribute to these interventions
within their own work setting.
Delight Training provides training on the programmised alcohol
and violence intervention COVAID and this event can be used as
an awareness raising opportunity for staff supporting facilitators
trained in this programme (please follow link below for further
information).
Course Applicability
For all staff supporting alcohol and violence
intervention programmes, in particular the COVAID programme written
by Professor Mary McMurran. Details of training for this event
can be found by following the link above or on the home page.
