Anger Management
Course rationale
Difficulties in controlling anger can be experienced
across a wide range of populations leading to difficulties for
both the individuals concerned and the people with who they come
into contact. These events are designed to help staff working with
groups or individuals who need to control their anger in a more
effective and pro-social manner.
Course Design
This training can be delivered as either a short
introductory event designed to provide a theoretical understanding
of current models of anger control and examples of current interventions,
or as a longer event including more specified examples of programmes
of intervention targeted on anger control.
Materials draw particularly on the work of Raymond Novaco and
as such take a broadly cognitive behavioural perspective on both
understanding of anger control difficulties and arising intervention
strategies. On longer event, time is spent for example on techniques
of raising individual awareness of environmental triggers, awareness
of and skills to respond to problematic patterns of thinking, and
finally, specific behavioural skills that can be employed in social
situations in a manner that enhances control of anger.
Course Applicability
These events are suitable for all staff involved
in trying to enhance anger control techniques within the populations
with who they work.
