Drugs
Awareness
These courses are typically 1 or 2 days events run within organisations
and aimed to develop staff awareness around drugs and drug related
issues. The one day course offers a basic introduction to working
with drug use issues, examining drug usage, giving information
on the various categories of drugs, offering the opportunity to
consider the effects of different drugs and relates this to the
participants’ area of work. The 2 day course extends the
information by examining how workers might engage with substance
misuse issues by considering the change process and motivational
issues involved.
Delight Training has been closely involved in programmes of drug
intervention both across the UK and also in Scandinavia. When asked
to include drugs knowledge within the training of several hundred
criminal justice staff within this process we have always sought
to empower staff by aiming to demystify the sometimes confusing
world of drug use for those less experienced practitioners to enhance
their confidence and the effectiveness of their work. Underpinning
these courses is the view that it is most effective to focus on
the change process itself when working in this area, rather than
concentrate on providing users with detailed information about
substances. However, staff need to feel that they have core drug
knowledge and our courses aim to ensure that they achieve this.
