Motivational
Techniques
These courses are 2/3 day events focusing on introducing the background
and practice of using motivational methods or focusing on developing
these skills further in a specific setting. They are designed for
face to face staff, managers and/or mixed groups.
The courses examine motivation in an everyday context, drawing
on Miller & Rollnick’s work on Motivational Interviewing
and offering insight into developments within the criminal justice
field or other organisational settings. We aim to have participants
practicing the core skills over the 2/3 days.
At the basic level the course considers core skills for working
with behavioural change and at the advanced level extends the input
to focus on arising practice issues.
Over the past 5 years we have trained almost 500 staff across
the UK from various organisations in Motivational Techniques.
Feedback has been very positive particularly in terms of enhanced
confidence in dealing with resistance in people and helping them
move on.

Please note that we also provide
training for programmised interventions focused on problematic
substance misuse (ASRO) and for working with difficulties around
alcohol and violence (COVAID). Both programmes are designed
to develop motivation for change in these important areas of
work. Please follow links for further information.
